Blind Like Me

There was a time I thought myself
A good man to admire;
I flashed a smile, convinced of all
The people I inspire.
I bought the line that way down deep
We're all a shining light;
Left to myself I'd rise to be
A star that's burning bright.
But then you showed me just how much
I hide the truth with ease;
How desperately I love myself
And cover this disease.

You didn't come for the well
Or for those who think so clearly they can see.
But you came, you came, you came for the sick,
The poor, the weak and the blind like me!

Well I can't hide behind a cap and gown,
A job or some degree
No accolade can fix my heart
Or fill my greatest need
All the education I could buy
Might only make me more
Clever and deceptive than
The man I was before
So save me now, O Son of God,
Have mercy on my soul
All my goodness I disown
For you alone can make me whole!

You didn't come for the well
Or for those who think so clearly they can see.
But you came, you came, you came for the sick,
The poor, the weak and the blind like me!

If they ask me how I see,
What more is there to say?
You found me, raised me, gave me sight
And turned my night to day!
Now there’s no way I can look down
On those who think they’re fine;
It’s all by grace I’m living now,
By grace I walk the line.
So I’m done with all the pretenses,

The shows of strength and pride;
I’ll boast in you, my Savior, King,
My Lord and faithful guide.

You didn't come for the well
Or for those who think so clearly they can see.
But you came, you came, you came for the sick,
The poor, the weak and the blind like me!

You didn't come for the well
Or for those who think so clearly they can see.
But you came, you came, you came
For the sick, the vile, the wicked,
The poor, the weak and the blind like me!

I’m blind, I’m lost, I’m dead—without you.
I’m blind, I’m lost, I’m dead—without you.
I’m blind, I’m lost, I’m dead—without you.
